The qualities of solid timber

Timber is valuable and beautiful for its unique natural patterns. We appreciate the raw beauty of solid timber and take its qualities into account in both our design and production phases. The first great artist working with wood as her medium is Mother Nature herself, imbuing it with warmth and life, adding knots and branches and other interesting details. This is why we can’t always guarantee that our solid timber products will be identical in tone or grain.

Remember:

  • Wood is a living thing – it shrinks in dry conditions and expands when there’s moisture present, and reacts to both temperature and light.
  • Even when finished with oil, lacquer or paint, timber surfaces are sensitive to heat (such as pots and pans) and are easily scratched.
  • Clean up any spills and do your best to remove any stains immediately, since timber is sensitive to them as well.
  • Gently wipe down timber surfaces with a dry or damp cloth.
  • Avoid dragging pieces of furniture around, as this may affect their connection points.
  • Timber furniture doesn’t cope well with significant fluctuations in temperature. If you buy a piece in winter, don’t place it too close to any radiators, but allow it to gradually warm up to room temperature.
  • Timber furniture should never be kept or used outdoors. Nor should it be kept in cold, damp rooms, such as in unheated summer cottages.
