Private workstations create a much-needed space for focused work

Open-plan office is a sample layout for modern offices and has been so for decades already. It started as revolutionary and trendy but the actual experience hasn’t lived up to the hype. The dissatisfaction among employees has been growing over the years to the point that we now need to find new solutions on how open-plan offices can support different ways of working.

People struggle to find a quiet place to work in open-plan offices. A study by Gensler has found that 77% of office workers crave quiet time during the workday.  In open-plan office there are different disruptions – most popular among them talkative colleagues – that at the end of the day decrease productivity.

What happens if employees can’t focus?

01/ Decrease in productivity

A survey by ROOM discovered that 33% workers said the distractions, noise, and general sensory overload in open workspaces slows them down.

People are losing up to 28 % of their productive time due to interruptions and distractions. It can take more than 20 minutes to refocus on the task at hand, which means we’re losing as much as 86 minutes per day, per employee, due to noise distraction alone (Study by Haworth).

02/ Work must be done away from the office

95% say that working by themselves is important to them, but only 41% say that they can do it. 31% of people need to work away from the office to get things done (Survey by Steelcase).

Solution: private workstations

A private workstation gives employees the chance to step away from the office noise if they need to focus on a task at hand. It is specious enough, so you can easily work there in your laptop. Sound-absorbing walls allow you to enjoy acoustic and viual privacy without being isolated from the surrounding environment.

  • Private: wall panels of the workstations are high enough to offer privacy and a cosy corner where to focus.
  • Sound absorbing: the wall panels of our workstations are padded, upholstered and covered with felt fabric that has good sound absorbing qualities. One workstation (August 2S/H1) absorbs just as much sound as 7 to 9 acoustic wall panels with measures 600x600x50mm.
  • Comfortable: we have over 20 years of experience in designing and manufacturing sofas for home use and our goal is to offer the same comfort in workspaces. The workstations are comfortable enough for you to stay there all day.
  • Compact: the workstations have compact dimensions, so you can easily add it to existing open-plan office in excange for two desks.
